depressed people can sometimes act as though they’re really happy

Mental health problems are more common than you might think.
(Up to 24% of adolescents will have had a major depression by the age of 18).

If you feel depressed, stressed or anxious, or you have an eating disorder don’t ignore it, talk about it!

No-one to talk to?
Try a GP or Practice Nurse. They are trained in all areas of mental health and see lots of people every week with these problems, both mild and severe.

No, it’s not wasting their time! It’s their job, and if it’s a concern to you it’s a concern to them. It’s far better to nip these things in the bud than let them grow into something big and dangerous.

And if it’s not you with the problem but someone you know why not help them to get the help they need?

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Anxiety, stress and depression can all cause physical symptoms, such as headaches, tiredness, and stomach pains.
  • Depressed people can sometimes act as though they’re really happy
  • Anorexia is the third most common chronic illness in adolescence

“I’m just feeling down. It’s happened before, I’ll get over it”

Everybody has low moods and high moods, it’s natural. But don’t pretend things are all right when deep inside you know they’re not. The relief you get from simply taking that first step to talk to someone can be huge!
