I haven’t been to a GP since I was a baby. How does it work? I want to choose a doctor who’s not my family doctor. So if a practice nurse isn’t still practising what do they do? |
You can even have a chat on the phone for free! Despite the name, a Practice Nurse (PN) is fully trained and highly qualified in primary health care. She (all PN's in the Nelson Marlborough Tasman region at the moment are female) will be able to provide advice on most health issues, including contraception, and can do things like pregnancy tests and health checks. Nurses cannot prescribe, however, so if you need medication you are better to see the doctor. If you’re not sure, speak to the nurse first and she will help you. |
